The Lit Room provides reading services for children ages 5-18 in Westchester County. We hope to create a supportive, caring, and encouraging environment where children can grow. We would be honored to be a part of your journey towards improved reading skills.

Tania Syriaque, M.S. Ed and W.D.P 

I’m a passionate and dedicated reading teacher, committed to helping students overcome challenges and achieve their full potential in reading and literacy. With a strong foundation in evidence-based practices and a wealth of experience in the field, I have successfully guided numerous students on their journey to becoming confident, proficient, and intentional readers.

With a commitment to ongoing professional development and a passion for teaching, I am dedicated to creating a supportive and engaging learning environment for all students. Whether your child is just beginning their reading journey, facing specific literacy challenges, or looking to enhance their skills, I am here to provide the guidance, support, and expertise needed to help them succeed.

Wilson Dyslexia Certified Practitioner: I am a proud certified practitioner in the Wilson Dyslexia method, a structured literacy program designed specifically to improve the reading and spelling skills of individuals with dyslexia. This certification reflects my deep understanding of phonemic awareness, phonics, and multisensory teaching techniques, enabling me to provide targeted and effective support to students with diverse learning needs.

Spalding Method: The Spalding Method equips me with a comprehensive approach to teaching reading, writing, and spelling. This method emphasizes the importance of explicit instruction, multisensory learning, and integrated literacy skills, ensuring that my students develop a strong foundation in the essential components of literacy.

I am also enrolled in a Dyslexia Certificate program from the University of Florida, further solidifying my expertise in understanding and addressing the unique challenges faced by students with dyslexia. This training will allow me to conduct and interpret literacy assessments, as well as continue to build upon my skills in designing and implementing evidence-based literacy intervention for students in K-12 settings.

Professional Training

LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling): My professional development includes training in LETRS, a comprehensive program that delves into the science of reading and provides educators with the knowledge and tools needed to enhance their teaching practices. Through this training, I have gained a deep understanding of the complexities of language and literacy, enabling me to deliver instruction that is both rigorous and responsive to the needs of my students.

Linda Mood Bell: Seeing Stars, Visualizing and Verbalizing: I have also received training in Linda Mood Bell's Seeing Stars and Visualizing and Verbalizing programs, which focus on developing sensory-cognitive functions crucial for reading and comprehension. These programs have enriched my instructional repertoire, allowing me to offer specialized support to students struggling with symbol imagery and concept imagery, ultimately leading to improved reading fluency and comprehension.
